The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) is mandated to develop and regulate Nigeria’s information technology sector by setting guidelines, standards, and frameworks that drive IT penetration in government, business, and education. The Act stipulates NITDA’s duties, including advising on policy formulation, ensuring IT project implementation, regulating electronic governance, and developing capacity-building programs. It also establishes the National Information Technology Development Fund (NITDEF), funded by levies and grants to foster IT infrastructure, research, and innovation. Through its oversight role, the Act seeks to expand digital services, enhance cybersecurity, and position Nigeria’s IT sector for sustainable growth.
