Issued by the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), these Regulations ensure telecom and broadcast facilities (e.g., masts, towers) are planned and operated in an environmentally responsible manner. All new and existing sites must undergo an Environmental Impact Assessment or Audit, while structures must observe prescribed setbacks (10–12m from residential fences) and abide by aesthetic and land-use guidelines.
Furthermore, operators must swiftly remediate or remove abandoned towers, mitigate acoustic or air pollution from power generators (e.g., using soundproofing, controlling exhaust), and keep electromagnetic emissions within permissible limits set by bodies like ICNIRP. Non-compliance can result in monetary fines or imprisonment, and facilities must also satisfy the Agency’s routine inspections and monitoring requirements to safeguard public health, safety, and the integrity of local ecosystems.
